Potential Actors

Thinking of the actors to play the characters in our film opening is something we have thought a lot about as we want the acting to contrast the some of the convensions that are typically horror. This means that when we were brainstorming the potential actors we discussed the types of actors and what this could lead the audience to believe.

Inspiration

As a group we discussed the possible inspirations for our psychological horror film opening and this lead us to YouTube various movies we knew about and those which we had discovered due to the our research of horrors.

All of these films have aspects that we have taken into consideration in the planning of our film opening:
  • The game aspect from Saw, which adds the unexpected twists and turns to the movie that is unique to the Saw franchise and this is what we liked.
  • The addition of a separate scene in Scream in the opening, builds tension in the audience
  • Inception on the other hand, makes you question everything that you have seen and this is something that we think would work well in a psychological horror.

Costume and Makeup

Costume:
Our main actress, will be wearing casual clothing as she is going about her daily life. However she will have her neck and wrists uncovered as these are seen as the most vulnerable places for a young girl to have uncovered.
Our other actress is only seen in full body when in a towel and we only see our third actors face.

Makeup:
All of our makeup is very natural and subtle, except for once our main actress has been strangled to death. This exposed vulnerable neck will then become bruised.

Location

We have been discussing different location options in our media lessons whilst coming up with our film opening idea.

One we originally considered was a woods, however we quickly discounted this idea as we thought it was too cliche.

We have now decided on two locations, one being an indoor car park and the other a bathroom.

The indoor car park is eery and quite, with dim lighting. The criteria we feel to create a perfect psychological Horror.

The other setting is a bathroom, it is an unsuspecting location, with high key lighting and a calm and peaceful ambiance it contradicts our film genre and makes the audience feel relaxed, creating perfect moments to shock and startle them.
